the Recording section of this Forum, it looks like I'm becoming a
Camtasia purchaser. Our client needed some modifications to a
Captivate movie we had provided a while back, and when we tried to
do the work, we found that Captivate's screen-capture functions
refused to work anymore.
We had this same problem a while back, but it went away for a
while... now it's back, and we can't find any solution, and the
client's deadline is NOW. The client had seen some
Camtasia-produced stuff somewhere else before, and has insisted we
go to that product instead of Captivate.
Sigh... a new environment to learn, and in very limited
time.Client insists we stop using Captivate
Sad. I don't recall your original problem but perhaps that's
beside the point. Good luck with the AVI output, and with Camtasia
Studio in general. Sorry for your troubles.Client insists we stop using Captivate
Thanks for the good wishes.
Here are some more details I had just posted with my original
problem-report in the ''Record'' section of the forum. I noticed I
wasn't the only one who reported the problem, which is that
Captivate2 stops capturing screens, and hangs permanently so that
the only way out is to give up whatever work was done in that
session, and Quit the program.
------------------------------
Some observations %26amp; notes, in case others get the same
problem that Macca73 and I have reported here:
When Captivate's Screen-Capture functionality failed and the
program hung...
I was running Captivate2 all by itself -- no other
application was running.
I have 3 gigabytes of memory on my WinXP system.
I ran a suite of RAM-memory diagnostics overnight. There are
no problems with the memory.
I had captured only about 10 slides, when the capture
function failed and the program froze.
(Macromedia) Captivate 1 still captures screens properly...
problem is only in Captivate2.
I reinstalled Windows on my system.
I uninstalled and reinstalled Captivate2.
Same results when I tried Captivate2 again. Captures a few
screens, then hangs permanently.
I rebooted several times and brought up Captivate2 again.
Same result... capture a small handful of screens, then program
hangs.
Our client insisted we give up on Captivate and try Camtasia.
I'm in the process of learning Camtasia now... will report here if
there are any interesting results.
Hi UncleErnie (and CatBandit),
From the desription of your problem I wonder if there is a
conflict with a process, software or hardware driver that loads on
startup. Unfortunately there are so many variables to try to keep
track of.
I assume that you are not (when using Captivate) reading from
or writing to a shared resource. (The fact that Cap 1 still works
well might be a clue to this not being the case.) Also, you are
working with XP rather than Vista?
If you have lots of time (and perhaps another machine) you
could try loading a fresh, clean system then load Captivate 2 and
try a simple capture of 40 slides or so. If that worked I'd suspect
a problem with another piece of software running in the background,
something seemingly innocent. Checking what processes are running
might give a clue too.
If you ever discover what might be giving you this problem,
please post it here. I might save someone else some pain.
Good luck,
TPK
I work remotely; the client's SMEs send me their basic screen
recordings and I do the editing.
I've never had a problem using Captivate 1 or 2 to do
recordings, but the client started having trouble with v2 after I
asked them to do some recordings through their Citrix (VPN) setup.
The same exact symptoms UncleErnie described.
Frustrated by what I thought was a ''user problem,'' I thought
the issue was either too little RAM or they were saving to a
network file. Tired of waiting for them to send me the screenshots,
I finally fired up my own Citrix connection to the application and
experienced the exact same thing.
Since my machine is a true monster and because our
environments have virtually nothing in common but the VPN through
Citrix, I concluded that was the problem. Wasn't surprised; there
are other comments about trouble recording a Citrix session in this
forum.
Client server problems?
We bought Captivate after I praised it up and down, only to
find out that it records little more than screens for a client
server SAP app. Worse still, it took many many phone calls to Adobe
to finally get to someone who looked it up in their knowledge base
and confirmed it. You know, Adobe should let people know
this.
Hi tybee2
I'm confused.
I see a total of three posts for you. Each is seemingly only
adding to what someone else has stated. Something along the lines
of a ''me too''. So I'm wondering if there is a specific issue we can
help you with or if you simply wish to vent. If you are simply
wishing to vent, that's fine, but it would be nice to know up front
so we don't scratch our heads wondering how to try and assist you.
Additionally, you need to realize that all of us here are
Captivate users. Official Adobe folks rarely visit the forums and
likely will not see any comments you choose to make here. If you
really want Adobe to see your comments, you should consider
submitting a Wish Form. You may do just that by
clicking
here.
Sincerely... Rick
I am getting some of the same problems with Captivate 2 that
UncleErnie is having. In my case on a machine with plenty of ram,
it just closes inexplicably without any warning. And when are we
getting an update that will allow me to create Office 2007
quizzes???
