Unable to save edited files

Hello Group,



Has anyone experienced this problem?? We have had this
problem 2 times, and it seems related to after a Windows automatic
update as run. Platform is an HP laptop, running windows XP.



We have several *.cp files. We open one file, and delete an
audio track from a slide, and then attempt to save the edited file.

The edited file will not save. For some reason Captivate
still sees the ''different'' file name as the same name as previous
file. The edit is not saved. We even created a new folder on the
C:\ drive, and copy a file in, open it, or attempt to open an
edited file that somehow got saved, and then Captivate say ''this
file is in a format that captivate does not recogize''



Has anyone else seen something like this?

captivate seems to work ok on my desktop pc, but not the
laptop??? Perhaps it is some sort of problem with the laptop

You seem to be saying you are running Captivate from the
laptop's HDD but are the files you create being saved tothe hard
drive on the laptop or to a network dirve at work. Also, you didn't
say what version of Captivate you are running ...



Captivate doesn't care for long paths or for opening and
running, or saving, your *.CP files from or to a network location -
Captivate 1.0 more so than Captivate 2.0.

I am not saving to a network location. All of our work is
done on the local hard drive. I am not sure,

but we have seen this problem two times, each time Windows
Update was running in the background.



Also, the problem popped up during long term sessions
(greater than 1.0 hrs) recording and editing files with both images
and audio.

Windows should be able to parse the resources for your OS
update from those required to multi-task the Captivate application,
so that shouldn't be the problem.
However ... I learned long ago that Widnows can out-binary
me every time.




Are you running Captivate version 1.0.1 or version 2.0? I'm
thinking if the problem persists, you might want ot consider
re-installing the application (shudder). Especially if it is
Captivate 2.0 on a computer that also contains - or contained -
version 1.0.1 earlier.

I was wondering if either of you have had any luck nailing
down this problem. We are experiencing it on one of our laptops as
well and I have been baffled by it.



The laptop is a Dell with XP SP2, it was running Captivate
1.0.1 for a while and was upgrade to Captivate 2.0 without removing
Captivate 1. This configuration has worked for months, but suddenly
I can't save anything. If you hit save the hourglass pops up and
goes away with no error messages, but the * in the titlebar
indicating unsaved changes is still there and when I try to close
it asks to save. If I say no or cancel it acts properly, but if I
hit yes to save it, is just goes back to Captivate and doesn't
close or save. Save As will save a file, but it is usually corrupt
when I try to open it later, and the * still doesn't go away.



I have gone so far as to run ProcessMonitor from Sysinternals
but it doesn't show any errors. It doesn't even show that it is
trying to save it. If there are any patches or updates for
Captivate 2 I have been unable to find them on Adobe's site.
After many hours of troubleshooting this issue we have
resolved it by updating our video drivers. The laptop had an ATI
X300 video card in it with drivers that were a few years old. The
most recent Dell update for them was from 2005, but it was still
newer than what was on there. Once we updated those everything
works perfectly. Nothing about the laptop was changed recently
except for windows updates, so I figure it must have been a 3 part
problem, a windows update, captivate and the video drivers.



FYI A quick test to see if the video drivers may be a problem
is to connect to the computer using Remote Desktop. That doesn't
use the regular video drivers. Alternately you could try in safe
mode or by uninstalling your current video drivers.

Importing and Director 7 + Windows Vista

I recently upgraded to Windows Vista. I am using Director 7,
which works great on Vista with one exception... I can only import
certain castmember filetypes... I cannot import sound or image
files... Director sees my files, but when I click Import and click
the Add file button, it just wont import it... standard bmp and jpg
files. I have run Director 7 in XP SP2 mode and as an administrator
and neither one seemed to help. Any suggestions?



I have not upgraded because I dislike Macromedia's changes to
the score functionality and the way the interface was rearranged in
Director MX... if they had not made those crucial changes, we would
have continued to upgrade.Importing and Director 7 + Windows Vista
Does it work if the files are completely 8.3 compliant. That
is: try

placing them on the root of a drive and altering the file
names to be 8

chars long before trying to import?



Alternatively, what happens if you drag-and-drop a file into
the cast

library from Explorer?

7.0 is probably a bit too old for serious work, version 11.0
is said to

come out the 1st half of 2007.



There are a number of lingo changes in later versions, 8.5
would give

you most of the new functionality including imaging.



The latest director might not be able to open files you save
with 7.0,

usually it only can go back a couple of version numbers.



There might be some 7.0 projector compatability issues with
XP and vista.


I placed the image on the root (c:) and same issue. The jpg
filename is only six characters long. I am unable to drag and drop
into Director.
Unfortunately I cannot wait until the 2nd half of 2007 for
Adobe to release the new version of Director. I *HATE* how the
score functions in later versions of Director which is why we have
chosen not to upgrade. All of our projectors we made on XP run just
fine on Vista. I have tested them. :) There has to be some logical
reason why Director or Vista won't let me ''add'' or ''import'' files
into Director. Any suggestions?

Water effect

Hi I'm new to the forum :)



I've got my first job in flash as a freelancer working for
somebody and I've run into a problem.



I'm expected to do windscreen wipers going back and forth and
water spraying against the screen, as if your looking from the
inside of a car outwards.



The windscreen wipers have to push the water and I'm
completely lost here because I don't know how to do water in Flash.



I have done the windscreen wipers and they are animated going
back and forth but I need to know how to do the water.

Im not an expert with animation but if i was in this
situation i would concentate on spots of water gathering on the
screen rather than large amounts of it.

Anyway, have you searched for tutorials?

Pop something like ''water effect in flash tutorial'' into
google and see what happens.

Flash & XP 64

OS = XP 64 (workstation 2003...)

Attempted to install flash.

Adobe site states it's installed correctly.

MS Security Update for Flash Player (KB913433) won't install.

Flash doesn't appear in add/remove program list.

uninstall_flash_player gets to 38%, then fails to install.



Any suggestions on how to clear up this problem would be
greatly appreciated!

Scrolling Text box - won't work in IE

Hey everyone. I'll admit right off the bat that I'm very new
to web design, so I'm sure I've been making some mistakes. I'm much
more of a designer than a coder, but I'm doing the best I can.



I'm wanting to have a scrolling text box embedded on some of
my pages, and have figured out how to do it, thanks largely to
these forums. I've made a CSS tag that has gotten it working
correctly - sort of.

It appears to be working correctly in Firefox. However, in
IE, the text just keeps flowing down onto the page, outside of the
allotted area. What am I doing wrong?



Also, is there a way to make this look correct in
Dreamweaver? Once I add text that exceeds the table height, it
breaks up my page, though it still looks fine in the browser. Is
there something I can do to correct this?

as long your remote server supports e.g. PHP, it麓s of
course possible to do just that -- the code attached is a complete
page which you will have to copy%26amp;paste in a blank Dreamweaver
document and ''save as...'' in your ''files'' directory. Must be saved
as PHP file !



Please note: it doesn麓t provide a thumbnail
functionality
(was too lazy doing that now ;-)), but it will display the
following file types : .jpg, . gif,. mp3, that is, all other file
types possibly residing in this directory are getting ignored.



All displayed files also provide links, which are opened in a
new target=_blank window -- that should work for image files and
also mp3麓s. Some extras included here are: additional display
of the file creation date plus the file size. I also added some PHP
comments in between to help you understand what麓s going on

I am exporting data in excel file (around 45000 records)
using cffile in Cold Fusion.It is taking around 45 mins in
exporting the data. Is there any other way to export a file from

Do you need to do it from code? If not you can do this easily
in Oracle SQL Developer which is free.
This might be a better question for the Oracle forums. There
has to be a method for exporting data in your database to an excel
readable format (i.e. CSV or TXT). I could tell you how in MS SQL,
but unfortunately I don't have any experience with Oracle.

Timing of sounds

Is there anyway to be more accurate with the timing of two
sound objects dynamically in actionscript? I know that I could use
the start method to position both streams to the second but is

i think you're confusing two different things:



the start() method ''secondOffset'' parameter has nothing to do
with WHEN a sound starts to play. it specifies at what point
(time-wise) in the sound file the sound starts. it does not control
WHEN the sound starts.



the sound starts within milliseconds of the start() methods
execution. you may not hear anything if there's dead-space in the
sound file and the start() method directs the sound object to start
in that dead-space.



to specify WHEN a sound starts, you control WHEN you execute
your start() method. and controlling when the start() method is
applied can be done very accurately.
No, sorry. Basically, I'd like to overlap two sounds. I'm not
so much concerned with when they start, only that they play
correctly in relation to each other. And for example, if I had one
sound playing and then wanted a user to add a second sound I could
make sure that the timing between the two sounds was accurate at
greater precision than a second. So, basically:

I was just concerned that the first parameter is in seconds,
not milliseconds.
well, that code will be way off. the position method returns
the number of MILLISECONDS the FirstSound is playing. correct it by
dividing by 1000 to use as a sound offset in the start() method and
see if that gets you close enough to what you want.

actually, when i tested the start() method it seems to be
accurate to much more than 1 millisecond. i can detect differences
up to .00001 offset. at that point it sound like simultaneous
sounds are playing to me. at .0001 they offset is detectable by
me.
I was actually using the following :



mySoundChannel1 = mySound1.play

mySoundChannel2 = mySound2.play



instead of start(). On my development machine the sounds were
simultaneous but when I deployed it on a remote server there was a
very noticeable difference (maybe a tenth of a second). Is there a
way to close that gap? Would a dedicated server or Flash Media
Server load that second sound faster?

Don't see the expiration has a play in this. Were it me and

were going to be a good number of images, I'd choose #2. It

saves on my server space and it stops anyone from uploading

something they shouldn't.

In fact i discover one thing.

When i'm in full screen with fscommand the video is scrambled
and reduce in height but sound is good.

Passing the player in not full screen with phone's options,
the video appear clear and i can watch it.

the video size is standard 176*144 and i don't understand why
it's not doing good in FS mode. May be i'm doing an error when
sizing or positioning the video

i did some testing with it.



when you normally create video object from library, and drag
it on stage, its default size is 160x120. the defaul webcam
resolution.



i used the same size in my test movie, and started video in
it which was sized 176x144. the video appeared smaller than the
160x120 size. but when i resized the video object on stage to exact
size of the video, which is 176x144, the video was played in its
normal size in full screen mode. in non-fullscreen mode, the video
object and and movie was resized, but the actual video was much
smaller then the video object.



video is resized according to the video object size. but the
actual video is sized almost half of the video object. so, you
should be using exact size video object for your video.

It's pretty common these days for only the PDF to be included
with the

software purchase. You can get it printed at a Kinko's (or
whatever), or

print out chapters as you need them, which is what I do.

i want to know the best way of putting video into my flash

You need to try it yourself. There is no ''BEST'' when comes to
video. Each format

is treated individually. Import to flash your video file with
varieties of settings.

See which one is best quality versus file size.

You can import multiple types of video formats, see under
File - Import dialog.

Tho FLV is the only one that can be dynamically loaded to
flash in run time.

And this would be your best bet to keep the file small.

Sure you can. Flash comes with components, ready made
controls for your FLV

files. In these components you can define the path to the
file and load it

off the server in run time. Playing as it cache. Import your
video and convert

it to FLV, you should have an option upon import to add
controls to it.

If not, look into components menu. There is something like
Media Playback or FLV

playback.

There are nice tech notes with detail info on how to work
video and components

Well, I believe the components are nicer, can't remember what
was the one that

came with MX 2004 but certainly Flash 8 PRO was an improved
one :)

You can download demo, do whatever you need, export and done.
Files made with demo

won't expire and considering Flash CS3 is due very soon, no
point upgrading to

Flash 8 Pro right now.

Not within flash, the only file that flash can load (video
file) is FLV.



You can open AVI or WMV with windows player tho or use 3rd

Is there a way a thumbnail can change a...

Hi everyone,



Another newbie question:

Is there a way that an image (doesnt even have to be an
image-could be text) can change the contents of a cell of a table?



What I want to happen is when you click on a thumbnail, if
changes the caption of a larger image.



I've tried using layers, but they are giving me trouble in
the fact that when i resize the window, the caption doesnt fall
right underneath the image鈥?so I am resorting to whatever
tables can give me. Yeah, I know its the most ideal solution, but I
am looking for something immediate right before as I am learning
CSS. Can anyone help me out?



The one thing that somewhat comes close is the javascript
''Set Text of Field'' but then it gives me that box around the form.
Yes it does give me the ability to change the caption, but it
leaves that grey box around. Can I have something that gets rid of
that box?

Issues when linking between projects

I've been creating HTML help with RH X5 for a few years, but
am new to creating WebHelp (still with X5).



I've run accross a couple of issues that I'm having problems
with and hope someone can help me:



-- Is there a way to link to a separate WebHelp project in a
new window, and maintain the window properties of the project that
I'm linking to? Currently, regardless of the window settings in my
project, the window size is the same as the project that calls it.



-- I'm trying to set up a clear process for linking between
projects, but am finding the paths more difficult to predict than
in HTML help. Are there any tips for quick and easy linking between
projects?

Issues when linking between projects
Kathy:



The browser size is user-centric; that's why both appear in
the same size window.



When creating your links, ensure that you have all the
folders copied to your machine in the correct directory structure.
RH will create relative links based on that structure. (Don't be
fooled by the absolute path it shows in the UI window after you've
selected the file; if you re-select the link properties you'll find
that RH modified the link to relative manner.)

I have a datagrid which uses an XML object as its dataprovider. The

Well formed (if a bit confusing) xml. In my datagrid I have
two columns. The second column binds to
questions.question.answers.answer.text and works just fine. The
datagrid's editable property is set to true, and I'm able to click
on the second colum and type and it saves the answer back into the
xml object just fine. The problem lies in my first column. The mxml
looks like this:

The problem is that the radio buttons' selected properties
aren't bound to the xml, that is the one that is true doesn't
display as selected. If I set the datagridcolumn's editable
property to false, clicking on the radio button doesn't affect the
xml at all either. If I leave the editable property of the
datagridcolumn as the inherited default of true (based on the
parent datagrid's editable property) when I click on the radio
button the default itemEditor appears (a text input box) which
contains the following text:

I have seen controls that don't have the xml path written
correctly display the entire xml node rather than just the
contained data, but I can think of no reason anything should Ever
reference just the closing tag. To me this looks like a bug in the
data bindings between the radio button and the xml object.



Just to clear the air to avoid suggestions that will work but
not meet the design requirements, what I need is a datagrid that
has a radio button group (only one correct answer out of the group)
in the first column and strings in the second column which need to
be editable. I suppose I could write some hairy event listener code
and manually hack things together, but aside from avoiding that
headache, I'd love to use data bindings for what they were intended
for - I just need to know why it doesn't appear to be working

You can use Flash 8 Professional to convert your video to a
.flv file. You can then play that flv file inside any flash movie
(swf) by using our FlvPayback component.



However; the easiest way to get your video into flash is to

All the fonts are installed and turned on, but it still gives
me the error. FW has caused me this problem numerous times. How can

Viewing a Live Stream from FMS

I'm using the Adobe Flash Video Encoder to send a live flash
video stream to my FMS 2 (Developer Edition) on a Windows 2003 R2
Standard Edition Server



I'm connected to FMS and the encoder IS sending the video.
When I look at the FMS Console its confirmed that I'm connected and
publishing a LIVE video.



I can't view the video, which I thought was going to be the
'easy' part.



I can't for the life of me figure out how to configure a
flash .swf embedded in a web page to VIEW the video.



IT''S MADDENING. I'm a bright guy, but in my opinion FMS is
very poorly documented when it comes right down to telling you HOW
to make things work.

Does new version of Flash have posibility to play external
video avi, wmv... etc. without converting them first to flv (for

New to Actionscript -- Need to teach...

I use Flash for Web design, and am entirely new to
actionscript. Despite this, I've been tapped to teach a one week,
1/2 day camp this summer called ''Creating games in Flash.'' I'm
madly cramming actionscript, but I think most of it is way too hard
for most kids. Can anyone suggest 1 or 2 easy, yet not boring games
I can learn to program myself and then teach the kids. Something
that will impart the principles of designing games, yet be do-able?
I'd be ever so grateful!



New to Actionscript -- Need to teach...
There is some type of nationwide craze going on about young
folks making games - it requires serious programming skills
assuming the game is designed even in Flash.



There are some Flash gaming books - look up in Amazon and see
if they may help.



In my opinion this is way too hard for kids and an ill
conceived choice of a summer camp course for the duration you are
considering. And Flash is not fun necessarily. Most folks new to
Flash struggle with the whole time line - layer - nested timeline
concept as it is depicted in the IDE.



Find something that would allow them to make games without
learning programming - a craft requiring experience.



But perhaps your way out would be to create some games such
as some of the code is template and parts can be changed such as
loading different playing pieces or changing behaviors based on
data values. But then an unreasonable burden for you to do for the
program.

Error loading a class into flash

I download XIFF API, extract it and copy the ''org'' directory
into Flash 8: ''C:\Program Files\Macromedia\Flash

I test a movie user XIFF API:

Image preload in director IMPORTANT!...

I have a problem with a project I did in director 8.5, when i
load my movie, the images and menu are there on start up, its still
visible, i fine tuned it and then I played again, it dissapears
BUT.... the images show up at the beggining and then dissapears,
its very noticeable. please help with this, macromedia if your

This isn't really enough information to help you. Do you have
any scripts in your movie? Is your movie suppose to pause on the
frame with your images? If so, what method are you trying to use to
make it pause?

Maybe the sprites are no more under the timeline at the
moment they dissapear, have you added a stop frame? if yes check if
the images are at that frame, in the sprite channel , the line must
intersect the sprite in the sprite channel.

From your description it sounds like you had a ''go to the
frame'' command

in one of the first few frames of the score, and now it's
been removed,

and so the playback head shows the sprites at the start and
then keeps

going on past those frames.



When you run the movie, you should be able to see the
playback head move

across the score. Is this what's happening?

hey dillon,



the movie is playing fine and all the scripts are fine and go
to frame are all intact, the problem is when i open the movie in
director the menus and pop up menus that are supposed to be
invisible are on, i already set the visibility to 0. when i click
on the play button then they dissapear, but before i click on the
play button the menus are on screen, its like some kind of
preloading problem or something. when i create a project the movie
plays but you see a quick glimpse of the menus pop up.

How are you setting this visibility property? Are you using
the button

at the left end of the sprite channel? Or are you using
Lingo? If you

are using Lingo, then the contents of a sprite channel will
usually be

visible if the movie is not running in Authoring mode. Once
it starts to

run, the code tells the sprites to be not visible.



Is this what you're seeing, or is it something else?

Linking ''forms''

I am trying to create a 3 or 4 page application, each page
has a name and date field... I want to link these fields.. For
example, when the customer types their name and date into the first
field on the first page, I want all the other pages to
automatically fill in as the customer is typing... can this be

TOC selection jumps out of range

Hi. I鈥檓 using RoboHelp 5, and I noticed an oddity in
one of my WebHelp system TOCs.



The TOC has many books, and the help system, when displayed
from our software, is quite small. I don鈥檛 have the option of
changing the window size.



Clicking on most books works as expected. You click a book,
the associated topic opens, and the book expands to show the topics
inside. When you click on one of the books, however, the associated
topic opens, and the book jumps down below the lower window border
so it, and the topics within it, are completely out of view. If I
expand the help window to make it longer, the problem stops
happening.



Has anyone ever seen this kind of a problem? If so, is there
a fix that doesn鈥檛 involve increasing the size of the help
window?

TOC selection jumps out of range
Unless someone has resolved this recently, this is the way it
works when you have TOC synch turned on and the TOC is longer than
the height of the frame.



I spent some time looking, without success, for the code that
RH uses when it reloads the TOC, searches for the topic to
highlight and sets the highlight flag. Why doesn't it scroll the
TOC after that?



Depending on how you generated WebHelp (DHTML, Java Applet),
the TOC list may be split into two or more files and RH assembles
it on the fly. Maybe this prevents the TOC from scrolling down to
the highlighted topic.



When you tell some doctors your arm hurts when you raise it
''like this,'' the doctor tells you to stop raising it ''like this.''



If Adobe will accept this as a ''bug,'' there's some hope.

Coincidentally, earlier today Compeat01 posted a fix in
another thread, ''TOC not refocusing ...'' that may help you.

I had the same problem, with a book with a large laundry list
of topics that the vertical height of the window didn't accomodate.
Scrolling down to a topic that was previously out of view and
clicking it, the TOC would refresh in such a way that you couldn't
see the highlighted topic.



See what snippet #49 on Peter's site does for you.



The summary: edit
whthost.js, find
document.body.scrollTop=nNewScroll; and comment it out by
putting two forward slashes // in front of the line. That worked
for me. You can check out the snippet for more details.



edit: ''snippet'', not ''snipped''.

Fantastic! Snippet #49 alone did not fix the problem, but,
when I combined it with Snippet #1, Rick Stone's Update 8, it
worked like a charm. I chose the Local PC option, re-generated,
deleted the offending line in whthost.js, and the TOC now works
properly.



If only there was a way to retain the whthost.js change from
one generate to another, this would be a happy day, indeed.

Have you tried placing the modified whthost.js file in the
following location?




C:\Program Files\RoboHelp
Office\RoboHTML\WebHelp5Ext\template_stock



*NOTE: You should probably make a backup copy of the existing
one first.



I'm thinking if you replaced that one, it is a ''seed'' and
should then propagate to any project you later generate.

Saving the ''corrected'' version of your file to another
directory, generating your project, and then copying it into the
generated folder, is one option I'll use for most files.



For another option, you could use ReplaceEm.



Generate your project, and then have ReplaceEm sniff
specifically in
whthost.js, search for the text
document.body.scrollTop=nNewScroll;, and have it replace it
with
//document.body.scrollTop=nNewScroll; (or with nothing if
deleting the line worked for you).
Rick, that sounded like such a good idea--I didn't know about
..\template_stock. Unfortunately, I tried it, and the file was
still generated with the offending line--I even tried deleting the
line, but it came back, anyway.



Nonetheless, I still have a working TOC, and I'm very
happy--ends my week on a positive note!

AS2 class linkage breaks with imported...

I stumbled upon this while trying to customize the tree
component following the example on the LiveDocs, see

To see the problem, do the following:



PART 1:

1) create an empty test.fla file

2) put a tree component on the stage

3) convert it to a symbol named TreeNavMenu, export for
Actionscript as TreeNavMenu

4) link it to the AS2 class TreeNavMenu

5) create the TreeNavMenu.as file as per livedocs (see above
link)

6) put a ''trace('initialized');'' in the constructor for
TreeNavMenu

7) publish test.fla and run test.swf and you'll see a
''initialized'' trace line



PART 2:

8) create a library.fla file containing a symbol, say a label
or whatever, e.g. named ''sample''

9) do a linkage/export for runtime sharing on that symbol

10) publish library.swf

11) import that ''sample'' symbol in the test.fla file
containing the tree and put it on stage, i.e. to be clear, mark
that symbol as ''import for runtime sharing'' from library.swf

12) now publish test.fla and run the test.swf again, and
although the imported symbol will show up, no ''initialized'' trace
message for the customized tree will show up.



my code is more complex, but this is what it boils down to.
to me it looks like the AS2 class initialization just does not
happen once I import anything from a runtime libary. The class is
there, but it does not get executed somehow. I tried it manually
via Object.registerClass() etc. but that was not successful either.



So my questions:

1) is this a bug?

2) did I forget something, should I do something else?

3) if none of the above: how can these two things be combined
otherwise?

have you used this custom tab? I downloaded this from
coldfusion support and wonder it is working on windows 2003. When I
downloaded this file, windows 2003 did not even come out and
comments on this file said ''This tag will only work on
WindowsNT/2000''. however shouldn't be working on windows 2003
operating system? can you help? (I use CFMX 6.1 update)

the only part of the document that might possibly cause a
problem is the class name the %26lt;Cfobject%26gt; tag is using to
access MS word: Word.Application. As long as you have word
installed on your server and it uses the same class name* it should
work fine.

Hi,

It is possible to convert an swf animation (flash 8 with
filters) in ''.avi'' with alpha channel?

(The background must be transparent)

I'm using a software named SWF2VIDEO, with this tool I'm able
to convert my ''.swf'' in ''.avi''. Some codecs give me alpha options,
but when the .avi is imported in After effect, there is no alpha
channel or he is not detected.



Someone have any idea on this?

I am two versions behind with my Adobe products. A few weeks
ago, I decided it was time to upgrade and settled on the CS2.3
Design Suite Premium. This upgrade goes for about $750 (with
Photoshop 7 ownership).



First of all, I was disappointed that there is only one
discount based on previous product ownership. I don't just own
Photoshop but also InDesign, Illustrator, Acrobat Pro, and
Dreamweaver. I own all five of the products in the Design Suite
Premium鈥攏ot simply one of them. I believe that the upgrade
price for the suite should take into account how many of the
included products you currently own. Customers should get an
additional discount for each of the currently owned licenses, say
$50 for each. In my case, this would reduce the total upgrade price
by $200, from $750 to $550. This is a more reasonable price for
someone who owns all five of the suite products.



But fine, I accepted the $750 price and was ready to buy when
a friend suggested I wait for the soon-to-be-released CS3 suite. So
I waited and today I looked up the upgrade price for CS3. I was
shocked to see it was $1,600! Can this be correct? An increase from
$750 to $1,600? More than double the price of the previous suite
upgrade?



Heck, I could buy the CS2.3 upgrade for $750 and then the
CS2.3-to-CS3 upgrade for $440. This would cost $1,190 which is $410
cheaper than the direct upgrade from Photoshop 7 to CS3. Even
better, I could upgrade from PS7 to the Standard CS2.3 for only
$500, and then from that to CS3 premium for $600. This path would
save another $90 and be $500 cheaper than the direct upgrade!



And so I ask, is the $1,600 upgrade price for CS3 Premium a
mistake?Is there an error in CS3 pricing?
I am in a similar situation. I own Photoshop CS2, Illustrator
CS2, InDesign CS2, Dreamweaver 8. I have owned Adobe products since
the early 1990's. So I own all the components of CS3 Design
Premium. Why treat me worse since I have owned Adobe products for a
long time? Why treat a great customer like this with no viable
upgrade path except to upgrade each product individually? This was
true when CS2 came out as well.



I called customer service and tried to talk with Adobe to see
if any options were available and was told ''NO''.



Bad approach Adobe.Is there an error in CS3 pricing?
Think yourself lucky mate, you can add about $1,000 USD to
that upgrade price in the UK or Europe. We get so seriously ripped
off in Europe - not just by Adobe.



Mind you, I agree, the pricing is both messed up and
high.
raykor buy the 2.3 premium upgrade from Photoshop before the
CS3 ships and you will get CS3 design premium package for the cost
of shipping.
Actually there is supposed to be a way to upgrade reasonably
with their ''creative license'' plan. From what i understand, if you
have this and that and that, you can just click on what you own and
the price comes down for your choice with every stand alone you
own. But the ''explore the creative license '' link on the main page
doesn't work. Takes you so far and then hangs. At least it does for
me on a mac as well as a pc. Tried IE7, firefox on a pc and safari
and firefox on a mac. No luck.

I think you may've just learn't why so much software is
forged!

A year and half ago I owned the Video Collection
Professional. I paid $600 plus to upgrade to the new Production
Studio Premium. Pretty good package and probably worth it. But now,
I see that the upgrade pricing from the ''Premium'' version of
Production Studio is the same as it is from the ''Standard'' version.



I have called 3 times now at least trying to find a route
through Adobe to get to someone who can at least tell Adobe how
some of us feel( I have to assume that there are others out there
that feel like telling them to shove off). No luck. No one seems to
know who a long time customer with a grievance can call or write
to.



In case I am not being clear enough: It is simply idiotic to
ask a customer who has already paid for the premium version of your
software package to pay the same upgrade price as those who own the
standard version. To add insult to injury I see now that new
customers pay less than what I have paid to purchase then
upgrade... then they get they new software as a free upgrade.



Adobe, take care of your current customers or you will loose
us.

Hi Forum : Dreamweaver.

My looks fine in DW work space but when I preview in any
browser, the first table (in CSS) looks fine but the ones that
follow below are all stretched out vertically below the style
designated area. I checked and tried different DOCTYPE still no
change. I tried changing cell sizes - sometime I see the change of
the cell that I changed , some time it doesn't. I'm out of clues.

Can anyone help?

You are using a whole bunch of DW layout tables, which
creates a real mess. You are much better off learning how to use
nested tables to achieve that design. Avoid DW layout tables at all
cost.

into a whole and so I was. How do I get out? I thought that lack of
spacer.gif was my problem so I switched to Layout Mode but that
didn't help. I realized that spacer.gif was to keep spaces over and
I needed the opposite effect.

Flash Media Server 2 - Trace

The problem I am having is I cannot get trace messages on
server side scripts to display anywhere. I have looked at View
Applications %26gt; {APP} %26gt; Live Log, but nothing is there. I have
#include ''NetDebug.as'' in my code, but while giving no errors, it
appears not to do anything. I really have no idea what is going on,
as I have previously managed to get trace messages displayed
successfully.

Flex 2/CFMX 7.0.2/IIS 6.0

My development environment is setup to match my production
environment as closely as possible.....



So I have Coldfusion (installed as server configuration, not
multi or J2EE) and IIS6 setup on a server lets call WebServer



There is an IIS Website setup called TestSite at IP
192.168.1.15

There is a DNS entry setup called TestSite pointing to that
IP



So if I were developing normal Coldfusion website. I would
place all files in a folder and access the application like:


http://Testsite ....



fine..



Now I would like to start developing flex 2 applications. I
installed Flex 2 builder/coldfusion extensions on WorkstationA

which is where dreamweaver is installed and works flawlessly
with RDS to develop coldfusion sites etc....



I go to create a Flex project in the Flex Builder

File - New - Flex Project



I then choose

Coldfusion Flash Remoting Service



I uncheck Use local Coldfusion server as the coldfusion
server is not local, its remote.

I have mapped a drive on WorkstationA ( v:\ ) which points to
the website TestSite's root folder



FIRST PROBLEM - No WEB-INF folder is there.... Ok so I copy
the WEB-INF folder from d:\cfusionmx7\wwwroot to v:\

Validate Location... success



For Root URL I choose the URL for the site:
HTTP://TESTSITE

Click Next



For Project Name I say TestSite



Uncheck default location and put in v:\



immediately I see a message that a folder called bin already
exists in the project location and will be overwritten....fine



click next....



NEXT PROBLEM:

a Red X appears at the top of the next dialog....

Says: Invalid path for resource: /bin. Must include project
and resource name.



I try adding v:\ to the path of the main app file and to the
output folder path.... error goes away.



Looks like I'm good, but If I edit the application, save and
try to run it I get a page cannot be found error...

What the hell..... somebody please help me with this. I would
love to actually start learning and coding flex, but for the life

Thanks for your feedback, Murray ACE, hopefully I've fixed
the error on page. I am aware of the other issue.



What I want to do is center the bottom navigation - tried all
sorts of things but nothing seems to work. It centers fine as text
in a %26lt;p%26gt; but as soon as I make it into an unordered list and
insert links it aligns with the left. Thanks!
