issue with Captivate 2.0.0 Build 1177.
Everything looks good until I drop into the edit project. At
this point, whenever I try to add a flash arrow (through
Insert/Animation and then selecting one of Adobe's arrows), I can
insert the arrow, but then all of the menus will no longer stay
visitible when clicking on them.
What I mean by this is that if I then click File, Edit, View,
etc. then the menu drops down for only a fraction of a second and
then disappears again.
If anyone has seen this, knows a work around, or has any
suggestions, I would be most grateful.
Thank you all in advance.
Allen
Menus will not stay active if I add...
Thank you to anyone who thought about replying to this
question. I found the answer nested withing another message in a
different forum.
Simply put, for those who are experiencing the same issue,
click on any item in the library (right side task pane) and this
will stop the issue ''until'' the next insertion of an animation and
then simply repeat the solution.

Hi Allen
Sorry we weren't able to answer directly, but I'm pleased you
found the solution.
Just as an FYI though, note that any interaction with the
arrow in the editor may cause the issue to resurface, forcing you
to do the library clickit hokey pokey again. I've had it happen
regularly where I edit some property of the animation and again
have to go click something in the library to make it return to
normal.
Cheers... Rick
I get the same problem repeatedly...and not just when I add a
flash arrow. Thanks for this solution. I am using the Trial
version: is this the case with the released version? Will there be
a patch for this annoying (bad) bug??
It happens if you insert any type of flash-based animation in
the full versoin too.
I'm not sure why this happens...or if it'll get fixed.
Hi ebarfie and keithroby
I'm not sure if Adobe is planning any sort of patch to fix
this issue. But I can tell you that the trial and full version are
no different in this respect. The ONLY limitation to the trial is
that you have a limited time to use it. Because of this, anything
you create using the trial has an expiration date set. Once you get
the full version, you need to edit anything created with the trial
and turn off the expiration date.
As I understand it, the menu flashy thing happens only if you
have version 9 of the Flash player installed and are using
Captivate 2.

Flash 9 plugin has nothing to do with it. There are issues
with Flash 9 but this isn't one of them - at least, that's the case
on my PCs which both have the plug-in for Flash 8 and still have
the
''menu flashy thing'' (good verbiage, Rick).
Have a nice Friday, everyone.

Hi Larry
Hmmm, sorry to be spreading misinformation. I was simply
repeating what was told to me by Kenneth Chen last December 9 after
I had reported it as a bug.

... Here is the cause:
I was finally able to reproduce this bug. We have been
receiving this issue from the customer of late and we felt to do a
more thorough investigation on this. Finally we were successful in
reproducing this issue.
This will happen if you have Flash Player 9 installed on your
system. Your steps of inserting SWF animation or Capture with FMR
will cause this bug. What is happening (which you cannot see) is
that it is trying to update something in a loop and so whenever you
click in menu item, it disappears immediately since the focus is
lost again.
One of the workaround that I can provide for you and you can
include the same in the Forum is:
1. Whenever you encounter this i.e. menu item disappearing,
then go to Edit view and ensure the Library is visible. Select any
of the folder or item in the library till this issue disappear.
This is just a short workaround I found. I will continue to
have this investigated along with my developers to see if the new
Flash player has anything to do with this bug and if I can provide
a better workaround for you.

Rick, to quote your copy of Kenneth's comments:

this behavior can be caused by factors other than the existence of
Flash Player 9 - to avoid the misimpression that there is only one
cause. Mr. Chen indicated that possibility in the document you
quoted. My comments are not a challenge to Kenneth Chen, but
recognition that there
may be other causes.
And whether or not he is on the development team does not
confer infallability, as I'm sure Kenneth would be the first to
recognize.
