I work within a team of 9 developers and we have recently
upgraded from Captivate 1 to Captivate 2.
Initially we were all pleased with the increased
functionality. Now, having used Captivate 2 for just over a month
we are having second thoughts.
The incredible increasing file size bug is appalling.
Projects doubling in size for no reason is unnacceptable, we have
tried the single slide copy fix (and all slides) but this is not
working with Captivate 2 failing to save the new projects after 30
minutes plus waiting! Having to click on library objects to restore
the menu's is also very poor indeed, custom colours not saving etc
etc.
I don't want to mention the changes in the SCORM
implementation suffice to say we have had to recode our SCORM code
that allowed version 1 to work correctly with our SumTotal LMS.
It is well past time that Adobe should have acknowledged
these dramatic failings in this software and issued a timetable
outlining when the issues will be resolved, that or start offering
refunds against software that I feel is not currently 'fit for
purpose'. Thanks to all those people who have tried to help
alleviate these problems, please don't feel that I am trying to
have a go at you..its Adobe that need to deal with this now.File sizes and other bugs
Well said Grizgut. I have to second that.File sizes and other bugs
Third.
I am so disgusted with Captivate and its file size (I watched
my file increase after deleting one third of the slides, its buggy
quizzes (they only run okay once--usually--but don't go to a
previous screen because all bets are off...my client was so
displeased that I had to resort to creating simple Flash quizzes),
its cumbersome user interface (ever try to select a single object
in the timeline and only one shows that it's selected, but when you
move it, others move, too?) that I'm looking for a job that does
not involved having to use the program.
How can copying and pasting your pages into a new Captivate
be a solution to file size? Doesn't Adobe see the absudity in users
having to jump through such hoops???
I am astounded that there's no upgrade out by now.
Grizgut, kltx, and el cielo,
As volunteer members of the Adobe Community Expert program,
we try to forward user concerns such as those you expressed here in
the forums to the appropriate development team. However, these are
user-to-user forums and one can never assume that concerns raised
here are making their way to the developers. With that in mind, may
I suggest that you report your concerns directly to Adobe using the
Adobe
Enhancement Request and Bug Reporting form
As is the case with most development houses, the more people
who express something, the higher up the priority list things
become...so...I would recommend that each of you file a separate
request.
Steve,
Have done as you suggested, please can everyone else do the
same. If it saves you time I have copied the three issues I
reported below. It may lose other developers less of their valuable
working time to copy and paste it into the bug report form?
******BUG******Number 1 of 3
Concise problem statement:File size too large for amount of
work in project.
Steps to reproduce bug:
1.Create a new project
2.Save project during development work
3.See the file size double after adding one slide!
Results:File size of .cp file increases from as much as half
to double for no reason! None of the 'fixes' on the forum are
acceptable or workable
Expected results:File size would increase or decrease by a
normal amount!
******BUG******Number 2 of 3
Concise problem statement:Menu lists disappear too fast and
cannot make selections from them.
Steps to reproduce bug:
1.Create a new project
2.Cut/paste objects within project or import slides from
another project
3.
Results:All menu's no longer stay displayed long enough to
make a selection, including right mouse click menu's.
Expected results:That a menu, when displayed will stay on
screen until I am able to select the item I wanted.
******BUG******Number 3 of 3
Concise problem statement:Custom colours are not saved after
creation.
Steps to reproduce bug:
1.Create a new project
2.Use the dropper tool to select a colour.
3.Add the selected colour as a custom colour.
Results:The custom colour is not saved.
Expected results:That the custom colour would be saved and
therefore could be used throughout the rest of the project.
Here's some inspiration for those of you who haven't yet
registered your concerns via the
Adobe
Enhancement Request and Bug Reporting Form . . .feel free to
copy, paste, and embellish with your own details.
***** BUG *****
There's little need for exhaustive details - you're well
aware of the problems relating to file size in Captivate 2's source
files. The ''copy-from-here-to-there'' workaround is a cobbled
solution at best, and disasterous at worst. In the process of
copying/pasting slides from one project to another... 1) the
library becomes useless because like objects are duplicated. 2)
Closed Caption text vanishes, 3) as do the branching
configurations.
Two steps forward, one step back...hours of development time
are lost.
Do the right thing: tell your loyal customers that you hear
their concerns, demonstrate that you intend to do something about
it by publishing a timeline for a patch, and then follow through.
The file size grows in Cap 3 also. I've tried NOT having more
than 1 background image and never having multiples of ANY images at
all, no sound or animation. Still, the files grow as soon as one
slide is imported, even if others are deleted. Infurating!!!
